
President Kenyatta leads Kenyans in paying tribute to record setting Angella Okutoyi

The Head of State lauded Okutoyi for lifting Kenya's profile due to her record breaking exploits.
Just hours after becoming the very first Kenyan in history to win a Grand Slam tournament, 18 year tennis sensation Angella Okutoyi received glowing tributes from all across the divide with President Uhuru Kenyatta being one of the notable dignitaries to convey his congratulatory message to the record breaker.
On the official State House communication channels, President Kenyatta conveyed her congratulatory message to the tennis prodigy as he lauded her efforts in lifting Kenya's profile while inspiring players from the country.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated teenage tennis sensation Angela Okutoyi for being the first Kenyan to win a Grand Slam.
Okutoyi,18, and her Dutch compatriot Rose Marie Nijkamp beat Canadian pair Kayla Cross and Victoria Mboko to clinch the girls' doubles victory at Wimbledon on Saturday.
President Kenyatta hailed Okutoyi's historic victory as a momentous achievement that has not only lifted Kenya's profile in world tennis but that will also inspire a generation of young players to excel in the sport," the statement read.

The Wimbledon Championship, Women's Tennis Association (WTA) and International Tennis Federation (ITF) also celebrated Okutoyi's record breaking feat.
"Couldn't be more proud of the new corners of the world our sport continues to reach. Congrats Angella Okutoyi on becoming the first Kenyan to win a Grand Slam title," WTA wrote.
